About Us

We are a well established retail/wholesale fresh and frozen fish supplier in Old Portsmouth, here for over 28 years.
		My company, Johnson’s Enterprises Ltd was formed by myself in March 2000. My father started Johnson’s Sea Enterprises (Portsmouth) Ltd in 1976, he retired in 1999 and I decided to form a new company as our operation had become much more retailer/wholesaler as opposed to fish catcher which is what we were. The core business of the former company, Johnson’s Sea Enterprises was as a trawler company running a fleet of 7 trawlers around the UK., landing catches both home and abroad.
In the late 90's my father and I decided to wind the trawler fleet down as crewing and operating costs were becoming very difficult. By late 1998 our last large trawler had been sold, so a plan was evolved to carry on in the fish industry as a wholesale and retail fish market with much more emphasis on preparation, delivery and sales.
		The warehouse is now essentially a fresh fish market for local and visiting fishermen to land their catches to. They are paid the market value of their catch on the day. We then go on to prepare, box and distribute the fish. Quite a large proportion of the catches are sold locally into the trade or on our retail counter to the general public.
Our shellfish is live in seawater tanks, which you can choose from yourself. The shellfish can then be cooked free of charge upon request. All shellfish is locally caught.
		Our fresh fish is mostly caught locally. We handle large quantities of local rod and line caught Sea Bass from approximately April through to November, all sizes. We also have trap caught Cuttlefish in April, and a good selection of day boat trawled local fish through Spring, Summer and Autumn. We also stock a variety of fresh exotic fish and can generally obtain unusual fish upon request. We also have a very extensive frozen fish section.
